Television screen size and placement

Back in the day this was more of an issue. In the HDTV world for the most part it's safe to say the bigger the better. HDTV's are so detailed you can sit much closer but you don't want to be too close to where you can see the individual pixels which can become distracting. Anytime you plan on buying a tv go look at it! Even if you plan on buying from the internet which can generally save you hundreds you still need to go to a store where you can see it and judge for yourself the correct distance. I have put together a chart which will give you a general idea on viewing distance. This chart is just a general rule of thumb but everyones viewing taste is different so it mainly depends on personal preference.

Screen Viewing distance range
26" 3.25-5.5 feet
32" 4.0-6.5 feet
37" 4.5-7.5 feet
40" 5.0-8.5 feet
46" 5.5-9.5 feet
52" 6.5-10.5 feet
58" 7.5-12 feet
65" 8.5-13.5 feet
70" 8.5-14.5 feet

Television Placement

I feel a quick word on placement is necessary. Your television looks best when viewed straight on. Generally you want the tv flat on the wall. Either on a stand or wall mounted. The height should be where your eyes are on the middle of the screen.
